Probably the Cheapest Hotel in Geylang of Singapore
Singapore’s reputation for its not-so-budget-friendly prices is indeed quite accurate for the most part.
I myself have even been subjected to $8 scoops of Häagen Dazs at Clarke Quay when entertaining visitors, so I know the pain the city’s costs can inflict on the average tourist.
The good news is that to many a budget traveler’s delight, there is indeed some pleasant surprises scattered throughout Singapore for food, leisure and in this case – cheap hotels. And regarding latter, one that rates high on that list by numerous visitors for affordability, is the Amrise Hotel.
The 3-story Amrise Hotel is located in the rather ‘colorful’ Geylang District just less than halfway from the city center to Changi Airport, and 4 train-stops to downtown from the Aljunied (EW9) MRT Station with a short 10-min walk from hotel.
The Amrise is a favorite spot for those who want economical rooms, and really don’t care about minimalistic amenities. It’s a very cheap and convenient place to rest your head if you’re mostly spending your days outside or for quick one-night stopovers.
From US$34 per night.
Although Amrise Hotel scores on being the cheapest hotel in Geylang, its location is also another draw for budget travelers.
- Under 10-min walk to Aljunied MRT (EW9) train station.
- 25-min train ride from Changi Airport to Aljunied MRT station.
- Under 20-min train ride to the city center and Orchard Road.
- Popular shopping places such as Bugis, Mustafa Center and Sim Lim Square are within 2-3 kms from the hotel.
- The Geylang area has an absolute abundance of restaurants, food stalls, bars and local shopping haunts located in virtually every direction when you exit Amrise.
I traveled with my office mate with no idea where to go. I salute the taxi driver who went his way to find the place with no extra cost. The hotel is situated just like Manalili area in Cebu City but it was clean and homey.
Though the room was small, we were supplied with clean linens, comfort room was okay with good flush and abundant supply of water. The air-conditioning unit was good. There was always new supply of bottled water and coffee daily.
The fee was just right for us. We only walked going to MRT from the hotel. Hoping to be back again for another round of vacation! – 0416joyce of Philippines at TripAdvisor

Tips For Your Stay in Amrise Hotel Geylang
Now getting back to the word ‘colorful’ of which I used quotations when describing the Geylang District in Singapore. This is due to this particular area being known for its nightlife – both from yesteryear to the present. Most of it consists of innocent and enlivening fun and entertainment.
Albeit still extremely safe since it is Singapore after all, you may occasionally see some females who are partaking in ‘evening employment’ if you will. Therefore, this district may not be suitable for all family members, more so the little ones.
Otherwise due to the incredible safety record of Singapore, this area is quite an enlightening experience compared to the rest of the city’s spic ‘n span environment. And not to mention Geylang has an excellent repertoire of famous local dishes such as Chilli Crab, Beef Kway Teow and Frog Leg Porridge.
Additionally, I would suggest asking for a room at the rear of the hotel and perhaps a windowless, quieter standard room if you’re a light-sleeper. Plus, make sure you check out the room before you check in.
Pros and Cons
Many previous guests upgraded to a deluxe room from a standard room if noise isn’t a factor, but having more space is. And lastly, if you’ve got heavy luggage, it may be a good idea to not reserve a room on the top 3rd floor, as there’s no elevator. After a long flight, who’s really in the mood for heaving and hauling their Samsonites up three flights of stairs? But then again, for a little extra quiet, it may be worth the exercise?
Numerous guests who were very satisfied for the wonderful economical value the hotel offers, weren’t really bothered from those slight bumps mentioned above. Perhaps many already knew they weren’t checking into the Ritz Carlton, thus being more forgiving.
Since the Amrise Hotel presents some of the lowest prices in the entire city, especially compared to the eye-watering rates of many other Singapore hotels, maybe a small basic room or lifting luggage isn’t too bad an option after all?
