The Battle Box located in the middle of Fort Canning Park is a former massive military bunker used by the British army during WW2. Dug 9m underground, it was here that General Percival decided to surrender Singapore to the invading Japanese on 15 February 1942. Battle Box is now restored to its former glory and with use of special effects, life-like figurines and animatronics, the feel of old bunker is recreated with stunning realism.
Next stop will be the National Museum of Singapore, located down the end of Fort Canning Road and a 7-minute walk from Fort Canning Lodge Hotel. At more than 120 years old, it is Singapore’s oldest and largest museum and is the best place to trace Singapore’s illustrious history. Today, the National Museum of Singapore is using cutting-edge multimedia technology to bring history to life to offer an enthralling museum experience.
To complete the experience of stepping back to early Singapore, one may visit the Singapore Philatelic Museum located on Coleman Street. The museum is housed in a 2-storey century-old colonial building that is a monument itself. Visitors can trace Singapore’s history the unusual way with the Straits Settlement (1819 – 1965) and Singapore Collection (1965 – present) of postage stamps exhibited here.

The Paragon shopping center, located close to the Orchard MRT Station (NS22), and is the perfect shopping location for luxury and exclusive brands. Here you will find the biggest Gucci store (flagship) in Singapore, as well as many designer boutiques and other famous labels.
Lucky Plaza was designed to be a vertical bazaar and it is sort of a city within the city, with over 500 shops well-connected by elevators. Lucky Plaza shopping mall is also very popular with the Filipino immigrant population as it is packed with a large number of remittance counters and authentic Filipinos cafes.
Where to Wine and Dine
The nearest place for under-one-roof dining will be the Plaza Singapura shopping center across Penang Road and Orchard Road. It is less than a 10-minute walk from Fort Canning Lodge to this mall where a wealth of dining options like McDonalds, KFC, Starbucks (24-Hour) and casual dining cafes can be found.
For affordable Mediterranean food, visitors can try the Fish & Co casual dining restaurant operating from The Glass House that is located at one end of Park Mall shopping center.
For winding down the evening with some wine or beer, Emerald Hill just off Orchard Road will be the perfect place. Emerald Hill is a stretch of pubs and lounges operating in old Peranakan-style shop houses. The laid-back charm of this quaint drinking oasis offers a respite from the hustle and bustle of Orchard Road. Emerald Hill’s “not easy to find” entrance is located directly across the road from the 313@Somerset shopping mall.
