Late Night Shopping in Singapore Mustafa Center

Mustafa Center in Little India

Mustafa Center – a shopping mall in Little India that never sleeps. This shopping behemoth is made up of two buildings inter-connected by a pedestrian mall bridge. It’s a place where you can find locals and tourists jostling for the best bargains.

Open 24-hours daily with more than 300,000 items for sale

Mustafa Center in Little India is Singapore’s most famous shopping destination besides the commonly known Orchard Road. Mustafa Singapore is the only 24-hour shopping paradise in this small city and is extremely popular with locals and tourists alike for its sheer variety of goods and most importantly, cheap prices.

Tourists will also be happy to know that there are quite a number of budget hotels near Mustafa Center which means tourists can drop by Mustafa at any time of the day. Guests staying at these hotels can also reach other parts of Singapore easily with the nearby Farrer Park MRT (NE8) and Little India MRT (NE7) stations.

The sprawling 250,000 square feet Mustafa Center is famous for pricing their goods below recommended selling price set by manufacturers. You can pick up everything from electronics, home appliances, gold jewelry, clothes, cosmetics, perfumes, shoes, toys, DVDs, to branded watches at low prices.

Digital Cameras, Laptops, iPads, iPhones and Tablets (Basement 2)

Digital Cameras Department in Mustafa Singapore

Almost all brands of digital cameras and DSLRs can found here. You name it, Mustafa Singapore has it! Brands like Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus, Fujifilm, etc.

Undoubtedly, this is the most popular and hence most crowded department in the whole of Mustafa Center. You will find locals and tourists alike crowding the aisles of computer appliances like laptops, multi-function printers, routers, portable speakers, accessories and the thinnest LCD TVs one can find.

There are two sections in this area that are so popular that sometimes you need to wait to be served. The digital cameras section stocks the latest digital compact cameras to the highest range of DLSR from brands like Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Olympus, Fujifilm, etc.

The other popular section is the mobile phones area which stock many cheap handsets from brands from Nokia, Motorola, LG, etc. They also have a corner that carries a bewildering range of iPhone and iPad accessories.

Interestingly I was surprised to find more than a dozen models of scientific calculators in this electronics department. Shouldn’t they be found in a more specialized store? No wonder the phrase – “you name it, they have it!” have been bestowed onto Mustafa shopping center.

Fashion Watches to Branded Swiss Watches (1st Level)

On the 1st floor, there is a watch corner right at the end of Mustafa building where the money changer is. The watch selling area is nothing fanciful and is rather sterile with just rows of glass cabinets displaying watches. However they are manned by friendly sales people representing fashion watches brands like Armani Exchange, Gucci, Swatch, Citizen and Casio G-Shock.

Higher-end Swiss watch makers like Tissot, Longines and Tag Heuer can also be found here at competitive prices. A misnomer on most other travel websites is that Rolex watches can be found in Mustafa. But that is not true at all as Mustafa Center does not carry Rolex all this while.

Gold Jewelry – Dazzling Variety (Basement 1)

Gold Jewelry and Gold Rates in Mustafa Center

The gold department in Basement 1 of Mustafa Center (new wing) sells a huge variety of gold jewelry in all shapes and sizes. Gold bars and coins, silver, diamonds and even semi-precious stones can be also found here.

Because Mustafa Center is located in Little India, a large and predominantly local and migrant Indian community like to shop here. As we know, Indians adore gold jewelry and Mustafa had dedicated almost the whole of Basement 1 just for the preious metal.

Visitors can find a dizzying array of glittering gold necklaces, bracelets, rings, bangles and pendants sporting traditional and modern designs. From the size of the crowds, you know they are doing a roaring gold business here.

Perfumes, Cosmetics and Health Supplements (Level 1)

Women and young ladies will scream with joy when they see the large inventory of branded perfumes and cosmetics on sale. You can find brands like Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren, Issey Miyake, YSL, Lancome, JPG, Gucci, Maybelline, Loreal, etc. The prices can be 20% cheaper than what you can get from the boutiques in town.

Level 1 of Mustafa Center has a sprawling section on vitamins, nutrition and herbal supplements for the health conscious. A 24-hour pharmacy is also available on same floor to buy medicine over-the-counter as long you produce a doctor’s prescription.

Toys for Kids and Adults (Basement 2)

Mustafa shopping mall is not just for adults only. Kids will be happy to find aisles of soft toys, toy figurines, puzzles, musical toys and even playpens for infants on Basement 2. Hobbyists also throng this section frequently to check out the latest modelling kits and cheap remote-control cars and helicopters.

Where Can I Eat After All the Shopping?

Indian Restaurant in Mustafa Center

Kebab’s and Curries – Indian restaurant hidden on rooftop of Mustafa Singapore. Sheltered with a magnificent glass dome, surrounded by greenery and water features, having a Maharajah feast here is definitely a relaxing affair.

Once you are done with trawling through miles of aisles stocked with bargain stuff, you will need a place to rest and eat. Just head to the end of the new wing of Mustafa Center and take the elevator to the rooftop (Level R).

Kebab’s and Curries is the name of the 400-seater restaurant that serves a worthy list of Indian specialties at very affordable prices. It is open from 11am to 1am daily.

24-Hour Money Changers

It is middle of the night when most shops are closed and you ran out of Singapore dollars? Fret not for the foreign exchange counters operating in the 24-hour Mustafa shopping mall are still open to serve you.

The round-the-clock money changers can be found on Level 1 (next to watch corner) and Basement 2 (inside the toys section) of Mustafa Center. By the way the exchange rates can be pretty competitively too.

How to Claim GST Tax Refund

For foreign visitors who spend more than S$100 in Mustafa, you can approach the GST Counter at Basement 2 together with your passport to fill up forms for tax refund. The actual money is refunded at any of the Global Refund Counters operating at Terminals 1, 2 and 3 of Changi Airport.

It is advisable for visitors to go for cash refund even though the commission is slightly higher as it guarantees the refund is in your hands before you depart.
