Be forewarned that it’s definitely not “a-walk-in-the-mall” and be prepared to sweat buckets. Operated by BorderX, an hour session costs about US$18 and safety equipment like helmet and harness are inclusive.

If sweating out is not your idea of adrenaline fix, how about getting high from “flying an airplane” but without sweating a single drop?

The SG Flight Simulations shop on Level 4 offers pilot-wannabes a chance to pilot the jumbo Airbus A320 via ultra-realistic simulator in air-conditioned comfort. You can finally fulfill your childhood’s pilot dream and fly to any airport of your choice. Various flight packages are available and the basic package with 30-minute flight time is about US$55.

What to Shop in Orchard Central

Orchard Central shopping center is a different breed from its neighbors. Instead of big brand names, it has mostly independent fashion stores operated by local designers and young entrepreneurs. Quirky stores selling one-of-a-kind and kooky items like belts, hats, or bangles are a hit with ladies who wants to be unique.

Stores like Blackmarket (Level 2), The Reckless Shop (Level 2), SABRINAGOH (Level 2) and Fourskin (Level 4) are operated by very popular local couturiers carrying their own designs or hard-to-find indie labels. You can refresh your wardrobe and at the same time support Singapore designers by picking up a few signature yet affordable pieces of tops or dresses.

For Apple fans, look no further than the istudio boutique on ground floor which stocks a bewildering array of iPhone and iPad accessories like covers, portable speakers and earphones. Of course, Apple staples like Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, iPod, iPhone, iPad and iMac are sold here as well.

The Singapore Mint, a coin memorabilia shop that one would not expect to find in a modern shopping mall has frequently made shoppers stop in their tracks. This quaint shop on Level 2 offers visitors highly-collectible coins and medallions as unique gifts to bring home.

Where to Eat in Orchard Central

If you are looking to rest your weary feet (not to mention wallet) and sample some fine cuisine, you can head to Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant on Level 8. With over 200 buffet items to include unlimited supplies of Sushi, Sashimi, Teppanyaki, Robatayaki (Japanese grill) and much more, you will be literally spoiled for choice. Lunch is about US$16++ while dinner is US$25++ for single adult.

For visitors from Europe who have not get used to the local Singapore food, fret not, just head for the MEDZS cafe on Basement 2. The MEDZs is a sprawling 200-seater casual dining restaurant that serves authentic yet affordable Mediterranean food like Spanish paellas, Moroccan Tajines, Turkish Kebabs and grilled seafood. Prices range from US$5 to US$35.

Where to Rest and Relax

Nestled on the top levels (Level 11 and 12) of Orchard Central, there lies an oasis in the heart of downtown Orchard Road, featuring beautifully landscaped gardens with their magical waterfalls and bamboo groves.
